At 18 Reasons, we believe that learning to cook and gaining the confidence to make informed food choices can transform a person’s life.
We are the only Bay Area organization offering free hands-on cooking classes and grocery donations to under-resourced neighborhoods in Alameda, Contra Costa, and San Francisco counties. Our programming serves adults, families, and kids, with each program reaching new audiences and fostering strong partnerships in the Bay Area and beyond.
In 2023, we expanded our initiatives by partnering with nine East Bay affordable housing communities to bring Cooking Matters directly to residents, and growing our Food as Medicine Program to combat pediatric obesity.
Your support allows us to teach even more people across the Bay Area in 2024 to buy, cook, and nourish their families through our free Community Programs.
- New parents learn to feed their families and themselves with nourishing food and doula support in Nourishing Pregnancy.
- Seniors, kids, and whole families learn new recipes, basic skills, and how to make everything delicious in Cooking Matters.
- Cooking Matters graduates continue learning about cooking techniques, planning, and budgeting in Planned & Prepped.
- Folks managing diabetes activity reduce their A1C and improve blood sugar by cooking at home in Food as Medicine.
