ABOUT SETH STOWAWAY

Seth Stowaway, Executive Chef, Osito in San Francisco

Seth Stowaway is the executive chef and owner of the Michelin-starred Osito, a 30-seat restaurant in San Francisco’s Mission District. At Osito, Stowaway showcases an explorative dining experience of California coastal cuisine through the lens of fire, preservation, and true seasonality.

Stowaway opened Osito in December 2021 with a clear vision of cultivating a setting where genuine hospitality is expressed through his deeply personal culinary approach. Immediately embraced by the community for the warmth of the restaurant and nuance of his live-fire menu, Osito went on to receive a Michelin star in December 2022 with praise for the heart and soul Stowaway pours into the restaurant.

The San Antonio native, whose nickname, “little bear,” inspired Osito’s name, uncovered that soul after relocating to San Francisco. While he carried a deep passion for live-fire cooking from his upbringing in Texas, his culinary career in the Bay Area first began to blossom at Postrio and Regalito, roles that laid the groundwork for a position at Bar Agricole under the Michelin-starred chef Brandon Jew. Stowaway spent the next ten years with Bar Agricole, working alongside chef Melissa Reitz, and eventually became executive chef of the group. During his tenure, Stowaway helmed the culinary programs at all of Agricole group’s restaurants including Bar Agricole, Trou Normand, and Obispo. He went on to work alongside Brandon Jew at Mister Jiu’s as the esteemed chef’s sous chef, before embarking on his first solo venture with Osito through the support of a local crowdfunding campaign.

Committed to giving back to his community, Stowaway supports Meals on Wheels, Eat Drink SF, and the Chefs Episcopal Services, a program that provides a 16-week culinary education for homeless/newly housed. Outside the restaurant, Stowaway can be seen frequenting farmers’ markets across the region, and spending time with his wife and son.
